Knowledge Cutoff

The date after which an AI model has no training data.

Full Definition

Knowledge cutoff is the date after which an AI model has no training data, meaning it lacks knowledge of events, information, or changes that occurred after that date. For example, a model with a January 2024 cutoff won't know about events from March 2024. For brands, understanding knowledge cutoffs explains why AI might provide outdated information about your products, pricing, or company. Some AI systems use RAG or web browsing to supplement their knowledge beyond the cutoff.
