How to get your business on ChatGPT
There is no form to fill in and no listing to buy. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity name a business when they can find it described clearly — on its own site and on the pages they trust — for the question someone asked.
So the work is: find out what they say now, then make it easy for them to say the right thing.
Of 2,611 free checks run on geobuddy.co (measured September 20, 2026), 60% of businesses were not named in a single answer. ↗
Five steps
1. See what the engines say about you now
Ask the questions your customers ask — with your city, in their language — and look at who gets named instead of you, and which pages the engines read to decide. The free check below does this across all four engines in about a minute.
2. Make your own site say what you do, for whom and where
The page title, the first paragraph and a page per service should state it in plain words: "Emergency plumber in Leeds, open nights and weekends". Engines quote pages that answer the question directly. An llms.txt file can summarise this for AI tools.
3. Be on the pages the engines cite
When an engine names your competitor, it usually cites a review site, a directory, a map listing or a "best in your city" article. Your check shows which ones. Get listed there, with the same name, address and description everywhere.
4. Answer the questions people ask
Prices, opening hours, areas you cover, what makes you different, how to book. A short FAQ on your site gives engines sentences they can use.
5. Check again in a few weeks
Answers change from week to week as engines update and competitors move. Re-run the same questions and see whether you're named.

Questions
- Can I pay to be listed on ChatGPT?
- No one can sell you a place in ChatGPT's answers. Be wary of anyone who promises it. What you can do is make your business easy to find and describe, and measure whether it works.
- Why does ChatGPT recommend my competitor and not me?
- Usually because the pages it reads describe them clearly for that question and don't mention you. Your free check lists the competitors named and the sources cited.
- How long does it take?
- Engines that search the web can pick up changes within weeks; what a model learned in training changes more slowly. Measure, change one thing, measure again.
